Software built for one school at a time
Startosoft is made by RASPSYS LLP. It is not a platform with your school as a row in someone else's database — it is an application that installs on your hosting, under your domain, and answers to you.
Why it is built this way
Most school software asks a school to hand over its children's records and trust a company it will never meet. Some schools are fine with that. Many are not, and are told there is no alternative.
So the whole system was written to install on ordinary hosting: PHP and MySQL, no exotic requirements, nothing fetched from a third party at page load, and no central service that has to stay up for your school to work.
The consequence is that a school can leave. We think software that is easy to leave is software that has to stay good.
What we care about in the code
- History is never overwritten. Corrections sit beside what they correct, with a reason and a name against them.
- Rules live in one place. Who may see a student is one database predicate, not a check repeated on forty screens with one of them forgotten.
- Money is exact. Whole paise end to end. No decimal arithmetic anywhere near a fee.
- Nothing half-published. A result reaches a family when it is approved and published, and not a moment before.
- It says what is wrong. A health check that names the problem beats an error page that hides it.
